The thorough restoration of Casa da Flor, which started on December 20, 2000, was completed on May 2001 and followed these steps:

- Restoration of the roofing.

- Restoration of the walls (removal and storage of decorative items; storage of the shards by sectors; selection and identification of the items; filling of the cracks on the walls; replacement of every detached item in its original place, according to the available iconography; careful cleaning of internal and external walls; protection and impermeabilization of the restored walls.

- Renovation of the external walls, steps and ways of access (collection of detached items; storage, selection and identification of the items; filling of the cracks; replacement of every detached item, according to the available iconography; cleaning and impermeabilization.

- Landscaping (removal of damaging roots; planting of grass, native plants and a hedge; placement of a gate).

- Illumination.

- Realization of a documentary film (the shooting followed the progress of the restoration all through. Once edited, the thirty minutes documentary will be available to Architecture schools, TV stations, etc.).

Thanks to the commitment and professional skill of the restorers - João Batista in the restoration of the roofing, Raimundo Rodrigues, Carlos Salgueiro and Cláudio Andrade in the art repair and Eduardo Lins in landscaping -the house recovered its pristine splendor.

For the project of restoration of Casa da Flor were used resources provided by Fundação Palmares / Ministry of Culture (recovery of structures and landscape, worth R$ 62.500,00) and also by the National Fund for the Culture / Ministry of Culture, together with the Society of Friends of Casa da Flor (art repair, worth R$ 81.310,97 of which R$ 65.008,67 were provided by the Ministry of Culture and R$ 16.302,30 by the association).

The technical supervision was entrusted to the State Institute for the Cultural Heritage (INEPAC) / State Secretariat for the Culture of Rio de Janeiro.

The Municipality of São Pedro da Aldeia supported the work of restoration.

The whole task of restoration of steps, walls around the , external and internal walls of the house itself, mosaics, adornments, sculptures, luminaries, furniture and other items was made possible by the extensive iconographic material (500 photographs) provided by the researcher Amelia Zaluar, who also collaborated in both projects as a coordinator and consultant. Thanks to this circumstance it was possible to obtain an almost perfect reconstitution of the original.

For almost five months the Society of Friends of Casa da Flor offered advice, general coordination and management of resources (in the second phase) and also took part in the production, the elaboration of the screenplay and the direction of the documentary.

In order to be informed about the days and hours of visitation, please call the Secretaria de Cultura, Esportes e Lazer of the Municipality of São Pedro da Aldeia: (0xx22)621-1559 extension 220.

Now, that the restoration is over, we feel that we accomplished one of our main goals. In the future we wish to enlarge the scope of our activities by opening new fronts for them:

- Project of research of spontaneous architecture in Brazil;

- Project of a joint exhibit Casa da Flor / Palais Idéal;

- Expropriation of the house that belonged to our artist's parents;

- Expropriation of the area behind Casa da Flor;

- Project of a Casa da Flor home page;

- Project of digitalization and preservation of photographs.
